November 21st, 2013 - Perioperative Drug Therapy

Who:    All pharmacy staff and students from the Midland-Bay-Saginaw area are invited.  This program is accredited only for pharmacist CE credit.
What:   We will be reviewing 4 articles exploring the role of the pharmacist in disease prevention.

 OBJECTIVES
After attending this program, the participant should be able to:
  • Interpret findings from future studies evaluating delayed-release local anesthetics for post-operative pain
  • Evaluate a patient's perioperative exposure to beta-blockers and recommend whether they should be continued
  • Suggest a tranexamic acid regimen to reduce postoperative blood loss after total knee arthroplasty
  • Identify outcomes IV acetaminophen can acheive for postoperative pediatric patients
  • Discuss the possible factors that lead to chronic opioid use after low risk surgery in the elderly

This first-time offering of the program in its entirety has been approved for 1 hour of live continuing education credit (0.1 CEUs) in states that recognize ACPE approved providers.  To receive credit for the program, the participant must complete a quiz and fill out and submit a Continuing Education Credit Request Form and an Evaluation Form at the conclusion of the program.  Statements of Credit will be e-mailed to participants 4 – 6 weeks following the program.
