May 2014 - Cardiovascular Guideline Update

Who: All pharmacy staff and students from the Midland-Bay-Saginaw area are invited. This program is accredited only for pharmacist CE credit.

What: We will be reviewing 4 articles exploring the role of the pharmacist in disease prevention.

Program Faculty: Paul Thill, PharmD, BCPS Professor of Pharmacy Practice, FSU College of Pharmacy

When: Thursday May 15th, 1:30-2:30 pm

After attending this program, the participant should be able to:

  • Describe the effects on major vascular events from more intensive statin therapy as compared to less intensive statin therapy
  • Describe the effect of combination statin plus fenofibrate therapy on cardiovascular events
  • Describe the effect of lowering SBP to 120 mmHg vs. 140 mmHg on major cardiovascular events in patients with Type 2 Diabetes
  • Compare the effects of beta-blockers vs. ARBs on cardiovascular morbidity and death
  • Compare the effects of strict vs. moderate blood pressure control on cardiovascular events in the elderly

The Ferris State University College of Pharmacy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. ACPE Universal Program Number: 0028-9999-14-017-L01-P. This first-time offering of the program in its entirety has been approved for 1 hour of live continuing education credit (0.1 CEUs) in states that recognize ACPE approved providers. To receive credit, the participant must register on the Ferris CE website, provide their NAPB eProfile ID number and complete the quiz with a 70% or better score. CE certificates are immediately available.
